FORT MILL -- In what could be a preview to this year's Class AAAA state duals tournament, Rock Hill finished first and Fort Mill second in the third annual Beef O'Brady's Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at Fort Mill over the weekend.
And another state powerhouse from Class AAA, Eastside of Greenville, looked good early in placing third behind the two York County rivals.
Rock Hill was Class AAAA's state runner-up last season and is ranked No. 2 behind Fort Dorchester this year by the state's coaches. The Bearcats won championships by Weston Beck (112), Seth Beck (119), Rashard Durham (135), Chad Beck (140), Dominique Jenkins (152) and Josh Tuck (171).
But Fort Mill, No. 3 in the state this week, took two of the three special awards. Brandon Fiex was named Most Outstanding Wrestler in weight classes 103-140. Max Simons took the honor in classes 145-285. Both were individual champions, Fiex at 130 and Simons at 189. The Yellow Jackets also got a championship from Thomas Mockridge at 160.
The other award, most pins, went to Lexington's Steven Dorrell with six.
South Pointe, which was fifth, got a championship from Ramon Truesdale at heavyweight.
