High school roundup: Bonda to coach North in soccer showcase

Indian Land’s Mark Bonda was selected as the coach of the North squad for the girls’ North-South Soccer Classic at Charleston’s Blackbaud Stadium in mid-June. Bonda is 88-47-3 in eight seasons as the coach of the Warriors girls’ soccer program. Teams for the North-South Soccer Classic will be released in late April.

Boys’ basketball

Lamar 49, Great Falls 45: The Silver Foxes outscored the Red Devils 14-10 in the final period and claimed a victory in a Region 3-A contest at Lamar on Friday night.

Nigel Simpson led the Red Devils with 30 points.

Tracus Chisholm led the Patriots with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. York Prep improved to 16-9 on the year with the win.

South Pointe 58, Union County 48: The Stallions took a 29-24 lead at intermission and went on to defeat the Yellow Jackets in a Region 3-3A game at Union.

South Pointe improved to 10-6 overall and 6-1 in the region with the victory.

Gaffney 47, Clover 46: The Indians made a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining and edged the Blue Eagles in a Region 3-4A battle at Gaffney.

Clover led 14-9 after one period. The Blue Eagles were ahead 39-29 when the final quarter started. Gaffney rallied and cut the Blue Eagles’ lead to 46-45 with 54 seconds remaining.

Lewisville 60, C.A. Johnson 58: The Lions fell behind early and rallied for a win over the Hornets in a Region 3-A game at Richburg.

Trey Keels rebounded his own missed free throw scored at the buzzer to give the Lions the win.

South Pointe 89, Union County 41: The Stallions raced to a 37-23 lead at halftime and toppled the Yellow Jackets in a Region 3-3A game at Union.

The Stallions improved to 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the region with the win.
