Lancaster girls stay on top in 3A rankings

Lancaster and South Pointe held steady in the 3A girls’ basketball state rankings released Monday afternoon by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Lancaster, 19-0 overall and 7-0 in Region 3-3A, remained at No. 1 in the state. South Pointe (15-3, 5-1) stayed at No. 4. The Bruins topped the Stallions 55-51 in their first Region 3-3A meeting two weeks ago; the two teams meet again in their regular season finale on Feb. 10.

A loss to Chester last week appears to have cost South Pointe’s boys a place in the 3A state rankings. They dropped out after being ranked No. 8 last Monday.

Lewisville (13-5, 3-3 Region 3-A) and Great Falls (13-6, 6-1) both appeared in the 1A boys’ polls. The Lions, who travel to Great Falls Friday, were ranked No. 10, while John Smith’s Red Devils were No. 9.
