The Rock Hill baseball team got a solid pitching performance from Will Reid and defeated the top-ranked Wando Warriors 4-1 in the first game of the International Paper Classic at Georgetown on Thursday.
Reid, a senior right-hander, allowed just one hit and fanned nine batters to push the Bearcats to the win.
Steven Buss, Conner Edkins, Issac Rodgers, Bryon Foust, Zach Carter and Reid each had one hit for the Bearcats.
Rock Hill plays two more state powerhouses –Lexington and Summerville – in the tournament this weekend.
South Pointe 12, Indian Land 11: The Stallions knocked off the Warriors behind Austin Harrigan and Houston Strauss, who both homered for the Stallions.
The Northwestern Trojans split two games in the Lancaster Invitational Tournament.
The Trojans lost to the Buford Yellow Jackets 1-0 in the first game, but rebounded to topple the Pageland Central Eagles 15-9.

Clover 3, Oakbrook Prep 0: The Blue Eagles won their first regular season game, beating Oakbrook Prep in a non-regon match. Brandon LaForge scored twice and Nando Ramos added the third goal for Clover.
Northwestern 4, Lancaster 2 (OT): The Trojans defeated the Bruins in overtime in a non-region match. The win was the first of the year for Northwestern, which improved to 1-2-1. Lancaster fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Indian Land 7, York 0: The third-ranked Warriors raced to a 5-0 lead at halftime and defeated the Cougars in a non-region match at Indian Land.
Katherine Kilroy and Kate Komorous led the Warriors with two goals each. Indian Land outshot York 27-0.
The win improved the Warriors to 3-0-2 on the year, while the loss dropped York to 0-1.
Rock Hill 2, Lugoff-Elgin 1: The Bearcats edged the Demons on penalty kicks in a non-region match.
Clover 20, Boiling Springs 6: The Blue Eagles took an 8-1 lead after one period and defeated the Bulldogs in a non-region match.
Riley Crysler and Riv Lambert led Clover with four goals each, while Anthony Farmer added three more for the Blue Eagles, who improved to 2-0 with the win.
