The Herald placed top-10 in five different categories in the Associated Press Sports Editors contest.
Entries from the 2017 calendar year were judged by members of the organization with preliminary results released beginning Feb. 26, 2018.
The Herald’s Bret McCormick placed top-three in long video for his video of South Pointe assistant football coach Gerald Peake, who wore a wireless microphone during one of the Stallions’ late season practices. McCormick and former Herald intern Joe Koon also placed top-five in short video for their field goal-kicking competition video with South Pointe’s B.T. Potter.

Local artist Garrison Gist and Koon teamed with McCormick to produce a top-five multimedia entry on the area’s top high school football recruits last spring.
McCormick landed in the top-10 in features -- for a story on Winthrop’s men’s basketball managers -- and projects -- for his week spent behind the scenes with the South Pointe football program.
The Herald also received honorable mention recognition for best sports website. Winners in each category are announced in April.
