Westminster Catawba sweeps York Prep in high school baseball on Tuesday

BASEBALL

Westminster Catawba swept a doubleheader from York Prep Tuesday afternoon at Westminster Catawba. The Indians won the first game 3-1 with Cole Bagley picking up the win. Jake Early was credited with a save.

Early led Westminster Catawba with a pair of hits, including a double. Triston Thomas added one hit for Westminster Catawba.

The 9-1 Indians won the second contest 10-5 with Carson Rowland getting the victory.

Bagley had a pair of hits, including a double, while Thomas added two hits. Early also had a hit for Westminster Catawba.

SOFTBALL

Fort Mill 2, Summerville 1: Fort Mill defeated Summerville 2-1 to win the Azalea Invitational Tournament in Summerville. Peyton Lemire was named as the MVP for the tournament. Fort Mill went 5-0 in the tournament to improve to 15-2 overall. Eighteen teams, including five from the area, participated in the two-day tournament.

Lancaster 8, South Pointe 4: Lancaster topped South Pointe 8-4 in a Region 3-3A contest at South Pointe.

BOYS’ SOCCER

South Pointe 4, Broome 2: South Pointe beat Broome 4-2 in a Region 3-3A match at South Pointe.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Northwestern 8, Gaffney 0: Northwestern routed Gaffney 8-0 in a Region 3-4A match at Northwestern.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Northwestern 5, Rock Hill 2: Northwestern won three singles and both doubles and defeated Rock Hill 5-2 in a Region 3-4A match at Rock Hill.

LATE MONDAY

York 12, Hilton Head Prep 2: York hammered Hilton Head Prep 12-2 in the opening round of the Hilton Head Invitational Tournament on Monday. Aaron Harper led York with three hits, including a home run and a triple. He drove in three runs and scored twice. Austin Devinney, John Moorefield, and Jake Trotter each added a pair of hits and drove in two runs each. Peyton Stephenson and Nick Clayton also collected a pair of hits and had one RBI each. Devinney got the win for York (4-4, 1-1).

Rock Hill 7, South Pointe 0: Rock Hill won every match and toppled South Pointe 7-0 in a non-region match at Rock Hill (4-4).
