Indian Land, York win in season debuts

Broome's football team probably had nightmares about York senior tailback Quastin Walker on Saturday night.

Walker rushed for 211 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in the Cougars' 28-14 win in the season opener for both teams.

“The kids did a great job and this was a good high school football game,” York coach John Barrett said.

Turnovers and miscues in the red zone hurt the Centurions. Probably the most damaging turnover came late in the final quarter when York's Corey Dover scooped up a fumble and raced 60 yards to the 5-yard line. Walker scored from 4 yards out.

INDIAN LAND 14, BUFORD 7 — Indian Land opened the season with a home victory over the Yellow Jackets on Friday.

Warriors quarterback Josh Camerire passed for 139 yards, including touchdown passes to Ted Boston and Jarrell Robinson. Rondreas Truesdale tacked on a two-point conversion. Indian Land ran 43 plays and gained 269 yards.

The Warriors and Yellow Jackets are in Region 3-A, but the game did not count in the region standings. Their region game is Oct. 23 at Buford.
