Hart named one of five finalists for Mr. Football award

Northwestern senior quarterback Dupree Hart was revealed as one of five finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football award on Thursday evening.

Hart’s fellow finalists include Summerville offensive lineman Zack Bailey, Wren quarterback Kelly Bryant, Dutch Fork running back Matt Colburn and Dorman receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside. The winner will be announced during the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl, in December at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.

Hart set the state’s career receptions record last year as a junior, and hasn’t skipped a beat in switching to quarterback this fall. He’s thrown for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns, while running for 877 yards and 12 more scores. While the other four finalists are committed to play college football, Hart will play baseball at College of Charleston.

The 5-foot-7, 160-pounder follows in some big footsteps as a Mr. Football finalist, becoming the third straight Trojan QB to be named. Mason Rudolph was a finalist last season; Stratford’s Jacob Park ended up winning the award, while Justin Worley was a finalist in 2010 when South Pointe’s Jadeveon Clowney won.
