Historic Brattonsville will be open to the public to honor all United States veterans Memorial Day, May 30. The celebration, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., includes historical interpreters presenting 18th-century cooking and domestic arts demonstrations.

Games will be played on the lawn, picnic baskets are welcomed and the 800-acre plantation with interpretive battlefield trail will be open for exploration.

As a participant in the Blue Star Museum program, the museum offers free admission for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families. It runs May 30-Sept. 5.

General admission: adults, $8; seniors, $7, ages 4-17, $5, free to CHM members and age 3 and younger. All other Culture and Heritage Museum sites are closed May 30. For information on Blue Star Museums visit: bluestarfam.org/Programs/Blue_Star_Museums.

Special events

▪ Westminster Towers’ Wellness Department is sponsoring National Senior Health & Fitness Day 2016, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 25 at Westminster Towers Heritage Hall, 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. The event includes fitness classes including Zumba and yoga and nutritional and healthy lifestyle information. Light refreshments, raffles and giveaways provided. ▪ The Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Alpha Gamma Psi Christian Sorority will hold its 2016 Spring Line Probate, 1 p.m. Saturday at Emmett Scott Center, 801 Crawford Road, Rock Hill. Free and open to the public. The sorority was founded April 20, 2011.

Fundraisers

▪ Clover Wesleyan Church will have a hot dog sale, 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, 102 Parkview Lane.

▪ Rock Hill High School Band of Distinction will host a Blender Vendor, Artisan Fair and barbecue, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2115 Celanese Road, Rock Hill. More than 30 vendors and artisans will display and sell their products. Door prizes.

▪ A benefit for Jamesa Mickles, who needs a kidney transplant, will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday at The Well, 135 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill. The benefit includes live entertainment, face painting, games, craft table, snacks and speakers.

▪ Harmonies for The Haven, a family fun day fundraiser, will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at The Dog House, 3700 India Hook Road, Rock Hill. Admission by donation. ▪ CrownGolf tournament, a benefit for the music program of Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, will be June 6 at Palisades Country Club, Charlotte. Meetings

▪ Catawba Chapter of the DAR will have its spring luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Check the yearbook for the address. Those whose last name begins with A-M, bring a salad. If begins with N-Z, bring a dessert.

Clubs

▪ The Ballroom Dance Club will meet 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Oak Room, Fort Mill Golf Course, 101 Country Club Drive. Guests, $15 couples; $7.50 singles, and includes a dance lesson. Classes

▪ Lake Wylie Shag Club offers shag-dance lessons and line-dance lessons for $1 Tuesdays at the Fort Mill Moose Lodge. Line-dance lessons begin 6 p.m. and shag-dance lessons 7:30 p.m.

Summer reading

▪ Early registration for the York County Library’s summer reading program begins this week. The program run June 6-July 26. Age groups are infants and toddlers and their parents, ages 3-11, ages 12-17 and ages 18 and older. Special prizes and program for each age group. Health

▪ Senior Helpers, providers of personalized in-home senior care, and nationally renowned dementia care specialist, Teepa Snow, will host two “Understanding Dementia Care” seminars for local caregivers, health care professionals, and the loved ones of patients living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, May 19 at First Baptist Church, Rock Hill . “Successful Interaction Strategies for Health Care Professionals” will be 9 a.m-noon and “Essentials for Your Journey Together – A Family Event,” 1:30-4:30 p.m. Register online at regonline.com/sc2015pm. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

Conference

▪ 4-H Youth Development a part of Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service is will accept 25 youth leaders in high schools across state to participate within The Pinckney 4-H Leadership Conference June 26-July1 at Clemson University. The conference will offer youth from diverse backgrounds a chance to participate in a leadership development program focusing on civic engagement, while experiencing college life on Clemson’s campus. Rising sophomore or junior high school students must submit a one page essay on what “Leadership” means to you and why you would like to participate.
