Chester County Sheriff Alex "Big A" Underwood was selected by his peers with the S.C. Sheriff's Association as sheriff of the year for 2015.

Underwood was cited for his service to the community and the country, including his sponsoring a Pennsylvania boy on a hunting and fishing trip to Chester County after a mix-up and his program to try and keep teens out of trouble.

More, Underwood has dealt with tough crime problems in Chester, including death threats after he arrested several gang members in the shooting death of a Chester city councilman.

Underwood was selected out of the state's 46 sheriffs.

First elected in 2012 and the first black sheriff ever in Chester County after a career as a State Law Enforcement Division agent, Underwood will be honored at a ceremony in July at the sheriff's association annual convention.
