One killed, one hospitalized after head-on crash in Lancaster County

A head-on crash in Lancaster County on Thursday morning killed a Lancaster man and hospitalized a second person, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Lindsey Montez, 22, of Lancaster, was pronounced dead at Springs Memorial Hospital, according to Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Tony Broome.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 9:15 a.m. on Camp Creek Road, about six miles north of Lancaster, said Lance Cpl. Gary Miller, a Highway Patrol spokesman. Montez was traveling south on Camp Creek Road in a 2005 Nissan Sedan when he drifted left of center and crashed head-on into a northbound 2009 Ford Flex.

Montez, who was not wearing a seat belt but was trapped, was taken by ambulance to Springs Memorial Hospital, Miller said. The driver of the Ford, who was wearing a seat belt and was also trapped, was transported by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Her condition is unknown.
