South Carolina and Rock Hill officials are investigating after firefighters found a man and his 9-year-old daughter dead Friday morning inside a Rock Hill home, according to a deputy chief for the city fire department and the York County Coroner.

Sammylee Roseborough, 63, and Simaya Roseborough were found after a response to a small fire in a house located on Deas Street at the intersection of Bose Avenue, said Sabrina Gast, county coroner.

The cause of death remains under investigation but “right now there appears to be no foul play,” Trey Hovis, deputy chief of the Rock Hill Fire Department, told The Herald at the scene.

The fire was out when crews arrived around 7:30 a.m., Hovis said. The two people were found by firefighters after they searched the house. No one else is believed to have been in the house, Hovis said.

There was a large police and fire presence outside the home and at Hargett Park nearby during much of Friday. The area of the fire is a residential neighborhood near Cherry Park, west of Cherry Road.

The fatalities are under investigation by the fire department, Rock Hill police, coroner, and State Law Enforcement Division.

SLED assists both when there is a fire-related fatality and a person who is deceased is a juvenile.
