Rock Hill Police: man found dead after shots fired at apartments

Rock Hill police on Saturday were investigating the pre-dawn shooting death of a 21-year-old Fort Mill man.

Officers were called to the Workman Street Apartments at 4 a.m. after witnesses said they heard gunshots. On the scene, the officers found Jason Adon dead in the front yard of one of the apartment units in the 400 block of Workman Street. This is the second homicide this year in Rock Hill.

A few residents at the apartment complex and surrounding neighborhood Saturday said they heard gunshots and knew something happened after seeing police and medics, but were unsure of the details.

One resident, who did not want to give his name, said he saw Adon “a time or two” at the apartments, but did not know who he was.

Several police were in the neighborhood Saturday afternoon and two officers were investigating a car crash one block away. A police officer at the apartments said a man ran away from the crash and he was searching the area for him. It was unclear the exact time of the vehicle incident or whether there was any connection to the homicide.

An autopsy and toxicology tests were conducted Saturday morning, but results could take a couple of weeks, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
