Rock Hill, York County police, black leaders to hold prayer vigil Monday, meet and greet with officers Tuesday
Rock Hill and York County residents will have a chance to mingle with police officers Tuesday evening as police along with black leaders, community leaders and politicians push for togetherness in the wake of recent police shootings in other parts of America.
Called “Unity in the Community,” the meet-and-greet with officers from the Rock Hill Police Department and York County Sheriff’s Office is Tuesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Old Town Amphitheater, 120 Black St., next to Rock Hill City Hall.
Top officers are expected there, including command staff from both departments. York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant and the candidate who is running unopposed for sheriff in November, Kevin Tolson, will attend. Dozens of officers from both departments also expected to attend.
The event was coordinated by York County Council member William “Bump” Roddey and includes leaders from the Rock Hill NAACP and other community and faith leaders.
At 7 p.m. Monday, there will be an interfaith prayer vigil at St. Matthew AME Zion Church, 539 Lige St.
