A Lake Wylie home was destroyed in a fire Friday, York County officials said.

The four residents of the home on Inland Cove Court escaped unhurt after smoke alarms alerted them to the blaze, said Greg Suskin, York County spokesman.

The York County Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire is believed to have started in the garage but the cause remains under investigation, Suskin said.

A cat that went in and out of the garage at times before the fire has not been found, Suskin said.

The fire was dispatched at 5:20 a.m., Suskin said. The home, valued at more than $400,000, is a total loss, Suskin said.

The fire was in a residential neighborhood near the North Carolina state line, northeast of the intersection of S.C. 49 and S.C. 274 and a cove of the lake.

Firefighters from five departments responded to the fire, officials said.
