Greenway marks 20 years with Earth Day celebration
The Annual Earth Day Celebration at the Anne Springs Close Greenway on Saturday drew thousands of visitors.
Although there was a chance of rain – which did come later in the day – Mother Nature provided an inviting climate with temperatures in low 70s and no precipitation during the celebration.
This year’s celebration marked the 20th anniversary of the Greenway, which opened on Earth Day in 1995. Earlier in the weekm the new Comporium Amphitheater was dedicated. On Saturday, it was the stage for Grammy Award-winning musician David Holt, Grammy nominee Josh Goforth and The Billy Jonas Band. In addition to an array of exhibits and vendors, the event included free hiking, kayaking, cane pole fishing, horse and wagon rides and more.
