Store manager told police employee illegally touched 12-year-old

A yogurt shop manager’s review of surveillance video has led to the arrest of an employee on several charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to police.

Rhyan Talmadge Barrett, 26, of Rock Hill, is accused of illegally touching a 12-year-old girl multiple times on Dec. 6 at the Sweet Frog frozen yogurt store on Carolina Place Drive in Fort Mill, according to a Fort Mill Police report and arrest warrants. Barrett has been charged with five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to records.

He is being held at the York County Detention Center. Bond was denied.

Police say Barrett and the victim’s mother are acquaintances.

The Sweet Frog store manager, Michael Carnes, told The Herald he was out of town on Dec. 6. But he said he regularly reviews surveillance video. When he returned to town and reviewed video from the previous week, he saw the incident.

“As soon as we saw it on camera, I let him go and called the police,” Carnes said.

“It wasn’t terribly graphic,” Carnes said of the video. “It was just stuff that shouldn’t have been going on.”

Barrett was arrested at his Rock Hill home on Tuesday after police reviewed a portion of a video. He initially was charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. After reviewing eight hours of video and interviewing Barrett, police filed the remaining five charges on Thursday, according to records.

All of the incidents occurred at the store on Dec. 6, according to documents.

Barrett was convicted of assault and battery with intent to kill in 2008, according State Law Enforcement Division records. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and three years probation.
