2 arrested in burglary at York business
Two men are facing burglary charges after police reportedly found one of them at the scene of a late-night break-in at a York business.
Joseph Wayne Taylor, 49, of York was arrested at the scene on the night of Dec. 18. David Michael Pendleton Jr., 42, of Smyrna was charged after police were able to locate him four days later.
Police were alerted around 11:30 p.m. by the security system at a business on the 500 block of Kings Mountain Street. When police arrived on the Carroll Avenue side of the business, they discovered a hole cut into a fence and several boxes of computer equipment that were apparently removed from the business. When an officer went through the hole in the fence, he reportedly found Taylor laying face down in some tall grass.
Taylor reportedly had several suspected burglary tools in his possession at the time, including a large wrench, a flashlight, magnet, flat-head screwdriver and a pair of gloves.
He reportedly told police he had an accomplice was waiting outside the fence and ran when he saw the patrol car approaching. A K9 unit was called to the scene, but trackers were unable to find the other suspect. When officers went to the hotel where Taylor had been staying, they found witnesses who said they gave Taylor and Pendleton a ride to Carroll Avenue earlier in the evening.
The items removed from the business had an estimated value of $20,000.
On Dec. 22, York police acting on a tip located Pendleton at another hotel on the Highway 321 bypass and took him into custody.
Pendleton is being held at the York County jail on a bond of $47,720. Taylor faces a bond of $54,000
