Two arrested in York County, one on the run after potent opioid kills one, police say

Two Rock Hill residents have been arrested on drug charges and another is on the run after two women overdosed on opioids and one died, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office release.

The women overdosed after taking carfentanil, an extremely potent opioid. One of the women was saved after emergency services administered Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses.

Marvin Brown, commander of the York County Multijurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit, said York County investigators have been seeing more cases involving the opioids fetanyl and carfentanil.

“Fetanyl is supposed to be 50 times stronger than heroin and carfentanil is supposed to be 100 times stronger than fentanyl,” Brown said.

Cordaris Michael Burris, 22, sold eight or nine carfentanil pills to Chelsie Melina Manus, 22, at the Waffle House on Cherry Road on May 30, the report says.

The report says Manus then gave seven pills to another woman, Courtney Paige Repass, 30, who kept two, and gave three to the woman who died, Anna Smail, 21, of York.

Repass and Small both overdosed later that day. Repass was saved by the administration of Narcan but Smail died at the scene.

Burris and Manus have both been arrested, but Repass is on the run, the report says.

Burris was arrested Aug. 9 and charged with distribution of carfentanil and oxycodone.

Manus was arrested Aug. 11 and charged with distribution of carfentanil third offense.

Repass is wanted on a charge of distribution of carfentanil third offense.
