Prostitution sting nets 5 arrests in Fort Mill

An undercover operation resulted in the arrests of five people for prostitution at a hotel near Carowinds late Thursday, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Undercover deputies contacted three women who had listed themselves in the “Escort” section of a website, according to a sheriff’s report. They spoke to each woman over the phone and arranged for a meeting at a room in the Clarion Hotel on Foothills Way in Fort Mill.

Misty Jane Davis, 21, of Matthews, N.C., was contacted by an undercover deputy and agreed on a price of $150 for “sexual favors,” the report states. Barry Scott Hughes, 29, also of Matthews, N.C., arrived at the hotel as Davis’ security/driver, and was seen in the hallway near the room where the meetings were to take place.

Hughes initially gave officers a false identity and said it was because he had a pending larceny warrant in Union County, deputies said. They searched his real name and realized he was wanted in Charlotte for trafficking heroin.

Davis also gave a false name for Hughes in an attempt to help him evade arrest, deputies said. She and Hughes were each charged with prostitution and providing false information. Hughes was also served with a fugitive warrant.

An undercover officer also contacted 38-year-old Lara Ella Catherine Snyder, of Florence, and 29-year-old Mary Michelle McAlister, of Charlotte, and arranged to meet each woman at the hotel for $150 and $200, respectively, to “spend time” with the undercover officer, the report says. Each woman was charged with prostitution.

Darryl Lamar Watson, 38, of Charlotte, was the driver who brought McAlister to the hotel, deputies said. He was charged with prostitution and having no driver’s license.

All five suspects remained in the York County detention center Friday afternoon.
