A Rock Hill man was charged with assault after he hit another man in the back of the head with a pistol while they were arguing over a moped, according to Rock Hill Police.

Officers responded to an assault on West Roy Street just after 1 a.m. Thursday. They found the 27-year-old victim lying face down on the ground bleeding from the back of his head.

The victim was unconscious but told officers after regaining consciousness that he and the suspect, 34-year-old Travis Cousar, were arguing over a moped when Cousar lifted his shirt to show the victim a gun in his waist band. Cousar reportedly pointed the gun at the victim and two other witnesses.

When the victim turned around, Cousar hit him in the back of the head with the gun, police said. Cousar had fled on foot but was found on the 1200 block of Curtis Street shortly after the incident was called in. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he was awaiting a bond hearing Thursday morning.

The victim was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment.

Over the past several years, Cousar has been repeatedly suspected but convicted only once of being a “peeping Tom,” and in January pleaded no contest to failure to register as a sex offender. A judge sentenced him to one year in prison but gave him credit for time served.
