Man purchases BB gun at York Walmart, decides to test fire it in the parking lot

A Clover man was so excited about the new BB gun he just purchased, he decided to take it out and test fire it multiple times in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

The 20-year-old was arrested by York police officers at gunpoint moments later and charged with discharging a firearm inside the city limits.

Store employees gave officers a description of the man after he exited the store around 5 a.m. Thursday, according to an incident report. The cashier said the man was seen removing the BB gun from its casing inside the store and asked to take it outside.

Once there, the young man reportedly fired the gun several times while aiming at the building, signs in the parking lot and potentially parked cars as well, according to a witness.

When they were alerted to a man shooting a gun, York police approached him with weapons drawn, demanding to know where the gun was. The man indicated it was in his waistband.

He was arrested and taken to the police station, where he was processed and issued a summons for violating a city ordinance. The BB gun was placed into evidence.
