York County sheriff’s deputies made an arrest in the case of a man found shot to death at his Lake Wylie home this month.

Kevin Mauricio Arita Dejesus, 21, of Charlotte was arrested Thursday and charged with murder.

A news release from the York County Sheriff’s Office didn’t go into details of the investigation or arrest, and noted the investigation into Campbell’s death is ongoing.

On the afternoon of Jan. 6, sheriff’s deputies found Campbell dead of an apparent gunshot wound at his home on Pine Moss Lane. A concerned co-worker went to Campbell’s home when he didn’t show up for work at Campbell’s Greenhouse and Nursery in Charlotte’s Dilworth neighborhood and found him lying on the floor.

Deputies had to use an ax to break into the house, according to a sheriff’s report.

A motive in the killing is unclear. York County Sheriff Bruce Bryant said investigators are looking into DeJesus’ legal status in the United States.

“This person was in possession of a Honduran passport, and the York County Sheriff’s Office will work to determine his legal immigration status in the United States,” Bryant said.

Dejesus is being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center until extradition proceedings can take place.
