Exclusive: Accused Rock Hill killer ‘shot the wrong man’ in feud payback, prosecutors say

The alleged teenaged triggerman in the August killing of a 30-year-old man in Rock Hill shot the wrong man as payback after a feud, prosecutors said in court Thursday.

Quinterius Miller, 18, is charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Anthony Hart. He faces 17 other charges in connection with other gun-related incidents during which police say he shot up a house filled with children.

The stunning revelation that Hart was killed for “no reason at all,” prosecutors said, came as the owner of one of the guns pleaded guilty to lesser charges and agreed to testify against Miller and another man accused in the Aug. 9 killing.

“He shot the wrong man,” 16th Circuit Deputy Solicitor Willy Thomson said in court. “Mr. Hart had nothing to do with it. He picked the wrong person.”

Miller was seeking payback after a street incident during which he was hit in the head with a brick, Thompson said, so he and another man asked Faubion Mobley, 20, for Mobley’s gun. Mobley refused, but the men took the gun from him, and Hart later was shot outside a Frank Street house.

Mobley pleaded guilty late Thursday to a probation violation because, as a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing a gun. He also pleaded guilty to lying to police after the killing of Hart.

Mobley initially claimed he knew nothing about the shooting, but now has agreed to testify for prosecutors in the case against Miller and another man accused of accessory to murder and conspiracy.

Miller is also the alleged shooter in an Aug. 2 incident during which police say he shot into a house filled with people, including several children. Victims in that case passionately spoke out against the violence when Miller appeared in court after his arrest. He was charged with the Hart killing while in jail and is being held without bond.
