Beaufort County detention center officer arrested, charged with misconduct
A 26-year-old Beaufort County Detention Center officer was arrested Friday and charged with misconduct in office, according to a news release from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office received a tip in March alleging that detention center officer Cynthia Jensen brought a cell phone into the detention center and gave it to inmate Walter "Oowee" Tucker.
Investigators said Jensen gave Tucker a telephone in exchange for $50, according to the release.
Tucker was awaiting trial on a murder charge at the time. He has since been convicted of murder and received a 39-year sentence.
Investigators met with a Beaufort County Magistrate and obtained a warrant for Jensen's arrest. She was arrested without incident and is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
