Concert

The Winthrop University Jazz Guitar Ensembles, directed by Dr. L. H. Dickert, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Community Performance Center, 249 E. Main St.

The Jazz Guitar Ensembles, performing since 1992, are comprised of four, five or six guitarists who are accompanied by a bassist and drummer. The show features “Alfie’s Tune,” “Penny Lane,” and “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To,” and music by Jerome Kern, Wardell Gray, Randy Weston, Cy Coleman, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sammy Fain, and Johnny Hodges. Dickert has arranged the music.

Tickets are $5 and available at the door, online at yorkcountyarts.org, by calling 803-328-2787, or at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St. Winthrop students with a valid student ID admitted free.

Winter guard championships

Rock Hill High School and Winthrop University will host the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association 2015 Circuit Championships Saturday. The public is invited to see more than 100 performances by high school and middle school ensembles as they compete in indoor percussion and winter guard contests. The opening ceremony is 8 a.m. at the Rock Hill High gym, 320 W. Springdale Road. Performances will take place throughout the day with the awards program at 5 p.m. Competition begins at 11 a.m. at Winthrop Coliseum, 1162 Eden Terrace, and conclude at 10 p.m. with awards. Admission is $15 adults and $12 ages 5-12. Tickets valid at both venues. For information, contact Joe Gulledge at 803-981-1323.

Meet Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit’s Garden Adventure will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 S. New Hope Road, Belmont. Peter Rabbit’s Garden Adventure comes right off the pages of the popular children’s tale as guests meet characters from the story, including Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail. Guests can listen to a story told by Mrs. Rabbit and enjoy hands-on activities. Professional Spring Photo sessions will be available for purchase with packages starting at $12. Photo time availability is on a first-come basis. Free with garden admission: adults, $12; seniors 60 and older, $10; and children 4-12, $6. dsbg.org.

Concert

▪ The Moon Flute Quartet will present a chamber music concert, 3-4:15 p.m. Sunday at the Cultural Arts Center of Lancaster County, 301 W. Gay St. Free admission and parking. Donations accepted for the Lancaster County Historical Society and the Lancaster County Council for the Arts.

Recital

▪ Gene Barban, retired Winthrop University professor of music, will give a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Byrnes Auditorium. He will play Chopin and other selections. The concert is free and open to the public.

The York-Chester Alumni Chapter of the South Carolina State University National Alumni Association present “An Evening of Jazz” featuring the South Carolina State University Jazz Ensemble, 6 p.m. April 25 at Dutchman Creek Middle School, Rock Hill.
