Bluegrass and ’cue come together at the Greenway
Anne Springs Close Greenway will host its 10th annual Fiddle ‘n Pig Shindig Sept. 11 and 12, with cook teams from across the region competing for trophies and prize money while bringing together some of the best bluegrass acts in the Carolinas.
The popular stringband ensemble, Chatham County Line, will headline Sept. 11 festivities providing their rich, resonant sound and original songs to the musical lineup. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. with Flatland Express Bluegrass. Friday admission is $20 for non-members; $15 for members (advance price only), free, age 4 and younger. Tickets for Friday are available for pre-purchase at Ticketfly.com.
More than two dozen cook teams will center around the Comporium Amphitheater to compete in the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned competition Sept. 12, competing in four categories including chicken, pork ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket.
A People’s Choice Tasting will be at the Dairy Barn on the Greenway at 11a.m. on Ssept. 12. A trophy will be awarded based on votes cast by tasters and prize money totaling $10,000 for all categories.
Saturday’s musical lineup includes Cottonwood Bluegrass followed by The Hinson Girls, Palmetto Blue and The King James 1611 Boys.
Saturday admission is $10, adults, $5, ages 5-12, and free age 4 and younger. . People’s Choice Tasting tickets are an additional $5 per person with limited availability.
Barbecue and food trucks will be available both days, as well as beer and other beverages available for purchase. Dogs are allowed on six-foot leashes.
