The Museum of York County, Anne Springs Close Greenway and the Rock Hill Outdoor Center at Riverwalk will host special outdoor activities to celebrate Take a Child Outside Week.

The national program is designed to encourage children and adults to spend time together outdoors. The York County partner agencies have events planned to highlight their own outdoor attractions. All outdoor programs will go on rain or shine, and appropriate outdoor clothing is recommended.

Anne Springs Close Greenway will be open 7-10 p.m. Friday at the Field Trial Barn for an evening of outdoor fun. The drop-in program includes night hikes, games and interactive outdoor festivities. Finish the night with a s’more for only $1. Free for members, $5 for nonmembers

The Museum of York County will host an outdoor celebration, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday featuring a live butterfly release at noon. Outdoor explorers can take part in a scavenger hunt and hike along the three-quarter-mile Piedmont Trail (the trail has some steps). Free for members and age 3 and younger; $6, adults; $5, seniors; $3, ages 4-17.

The Rock Hill Outdoor Center is sponsoring a free outdoor event 9 a.m.-noon Sunday at the Riverwalk trailhead. Outdoor educators will talk about trees, and participants can create leaf and bark rubbings. Walk along the scenic Catawba River to experience a Reading-With-Nature-Trail, featuring the nature-inspired children’s book “Step Gently Out,” by Helen Frost.

Attend two of the three events and become eligible for a prize drawing. Ask for details during admission to the events.

Winners will be notified by Oct. 6.
