Hog butchering day
The traditional family affair of processing and preserving a whole hog will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Historic Brattonsville in McConnells. Historially dressed interpreters will will present a sundry of pork-processing activities throughout the day, including rendering lard and making soap, as well as butchering, preservation, and cooking demonstrations. Visitors can watch how chitterlings and sausages and bacon are made. Food from Gardeners BBQ of York County will be available for purchase. Admission: $6, adult; $5, senior, $3, ages 4-17 and free for children 3 and younger and Culture and Heritage Musuem members.
Auditions
The Fort Mill Community Playhouse will hold auditions for its March musical production, “The Honky Tonk Angels,” 2:30-4 p.m. Saturday and 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday at the Fort Mill Community Playhouse, 615 Banks St. Roles are available for three females with strong voices for solos and harmony. Bird sleuthing
The Museum Guild will host a program on joining the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s BirdSleuth and Citizen Science programs at 10 a.m. Monday at the Museum of York County, Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill. Southern Sound Series
The Jerry Douglas Band kicks off the 2016 Southern Sound Series at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the McCelvey Center’s Lowry Family Theatre. Dobro master Douglas ranks among the top contemporary artists in the music industry. With 14 Grammys, he’s worked with Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, Ray Charles and many others. Metalworking
Bob Doster’s Backstreet Studio in Lancaster will hold metal sculpture workshops, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 30, March 5, and April 30 at 217 E. Gay St. Participants can make a bottle tree, sculpture, or metal ornaments and will design, draw, cut, polish, and weld under the instruction of Doster. Cost is $100 with supplies included. Clover arts series
