Book sale
Friends of the York County Library book sale continues 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2115 Celanese Road, Rock Hill. Thousands of books for all ages will be sold at $2 per inch. DVDs and audiobooks will also be available at bargain prices. All books will be half price on Saturday. Bluegrass
Allison Creek Bluegrass will host Trinity Bluegrass 7 p.m. Thursday at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church, S.C. 274 at Allison Creek Road, York. Doors open at 6 p.m. and concessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Donations accepted.
Patsy Cline tribute
Sandia Ahlers stars in America’s favorite Patsy Cline tribute, “A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline,” at 8 p.m. Thursday at Clover High School auditorium, S.C. 55. The upbeat musical reveals the emotional depth and vocal range of Patsy Cline, a singer who dominated the country, blues, pop and gospel charts simultaneously in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Throughout the show, Little Big Man, a disc jockey from Cline’s hometown of Winchester, Va., traces the late singer’s footsteps from early honky tonk and radio days through her rise at the Grand Old Opry, plus her appearances at Carnegie Hall and Las Vegas. Super Bowl fundraiser
The Haven Men’s Shelter 2016 Super Bowl fundraiser will be Feb. 7 at the Magnolia Room at Laurel Creek, Rock Hill. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The party will feature multiple big-screen TVs, open bar, unlimited oysters and a silent auction. Tailgate menu by Chef Rob at Kr8 Xperiences. Be Irish
“Be Irish for a Night,” the 22nd annual fundraiser for Pilgrims’ Inn, will be 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 12 at Saint Anne Parish Life Center, 1696 Bird St., Rock Hill. The event features a corned beef and cabbage dinner, homemade Irish corn bread and desserts, wine, beer, soft drinks, Irish dancers and music and live and silent auctions. Black history observances
In honor of Black History Month, Historic Brattonsville presents “By Way of the Back Door,” special guided tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Saturday in February. The program at the living history museum will focus on three generations of slavery from 1780-1865. Reflecting on the lives of the enslaved from the American Revolution through and beyond the Civil War, the tours will include stops at Colonel Bratton’s house, the slave cabins, the Brick Kitchen, and the Homestead.
Additional activities, including 18th-century cooking and blacksmithing, will be offered from 10 a.m. 4 p.m. Admission: adult, $6; seniors, $5; ages 4-17, $3 and free for Culture and Heritage Museum members and ages 3 and younger.
