Art show

Tega Cay artist Todd Baxter’s works will be featured in the Dalton Gallery Friday through June 14 at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill. A free, public reception will be 6-8 p.m. May 12 at the center. Baxter’s works are filled with iconic locations, idyllic spots along rivers and lakes, landscapes featuring subjects in decay, yet are still full of life. He also turns his focus to people around him, providing studies of personal moments captured while vacationing, and portraits capturing his subjects’ beauty and grace. Compass Prep Student Photo Exhibit will be on exhibition concurrently in the Edmund Lewandowski Classroom Gallery.

Concert

Iris DeMent will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lowry Family Theater at the McCelvey Center in York. DeMent’s “My Life” was nominated for a Grammy Award for best contemporary folk album, as was her collaboration with John Prine – “In Spite of Ourselves.” In 2015, DeMent released her latest recording “The Trackless Woods.” Tickets: $25, Culture and Heritage Museum members; $30, general admission. Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day Birthday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Museum of York County. This free family event features activities, games, live entertainment and more than 30 educational exhibits, each with a hands-on environmental message. Shop in the eco-marketplace, where artisans offer items made from recycled materials. Pony rides and family friendly foods available for a fee. A shredding truck, sponsored by Family Trust Credit Union, will be available 9 a.m.-noon at Mount Gallant Elementary School for household shredding only. Earth Day Birthday is presented in partnership with Rock Hill Clean & Green, the Culture & Heritage Museums, and York County Collection & Recycling.

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run of the Tri County SC will host its end of the season Girls on the Run 5K, 8 a.m. Saturday in downtown Rock Hill. The run is noncompetitive and provides girls with a goal to work toward. The cost to participate is $30 on race day. McConnell’s Community Center will host a Mother’s Day Art Sale, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the center, 189 Church St. Area artists will sell original art, prints, cards, crafts, jewelry and photography. Allison Creek Bluegrass will host Cottonwood, 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Allison Creek Presbyterian Church, S.C. 274 at Allison Creek Road, York. Doors open at 6 p.m., and food service with hot dogs, hamburgers and desserts begins at 6:30. Free admission.
