Book sale
The Friends of the York County Library are continuing its Buy One Get One Free paperback book sale 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Friday-Saturday at Friends Books on Main, 206 E. Main St., Rock Hill. This sale includes all paperbacks that are regularly priced at 50 cents each. Saturday, a bag of paperbacks is $10. Bags are provided. Proceeds go to York County libraries. Shakespeare Carolina
Shakespeare Carolina Presents “Miss Julie” by August Strindberg, Aug.4-7, in the Black Box in Johnson Hall at Winthrop University. This ‘upstairs-downstairs’ story explores the dark romance between a young countess, Miss Julie, and her father's footman, Jean. Kristin, Jean's fiancée, adds further intriguing dynamics to Miss Julie's venture upon the edge of an emotional precipice. Performances will 8 p.m. Aug. 4, 5, 6 and 3 p.m. and Aug. 7. Concert series
The Anne Springs Close Greenway summer concert series features the Triple Play at 6:30 p.m. in the Comporium Amphitheater. Gates open at 6. Bring blankets, chairs and picnics. The concerts are free for Greenway members and $5 for nonmembers. Parking is $5 per car; seasonal parking passes $30 for members, $45 for nonmembers. Planetarium show
A new planetarium show, “Did an Asteroid Really Kill the Dinosaurs?” will run through Sept. 10 the Museum of York County’s Settlemyre Planetarium. It’s part of the museum’s dinosaur-themed summer program. The show explores the possibility of a six-mile wide space rock slamming into the Earth 66 million years ago and wiping out 75 percent of all living species at that time, including the dinosaurs. The show will be featured at 11 a.m. Saturdays and noon Tuesdays-Fridays through Sept. 10. The current program “Dinosaur Discovery” will run at 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. Admission: $8, adults; $7, seniors; $5, ages 4-17 and free to members and age 3 and younger.
