The second annual Pump House River Run, a two-stage adventurous race, features a three-mile paddle on the scenic Catawba River followed by a 5K run on the PMC Trail Saturday at Riverwalk in Rock Hill. It’s an ‘off-beat’ cool competition for kayakers and running enthusiasts.

However, if your idea of an afternoon escapade is well, less daring, fear not. There will also be a rousing live music component to this sports event from the band Sonic Rewind ready to rock for your dining and hangout pleasure.

Based in Fort Mill, Sonic Rewind is a 70s/80s style rock troupe specializing in big vocals, hot harmonies, driven by familiar guitar riffs, all from band members: Jeff Grieco, drums/vocals; Bob Miller, guitar; Jim Walsh, bass/back up vocals and Joe Millo, guitar/vocals.

SR features three vocalists in the group, helping them cover the wide range of sounds and styles that is their specialty.

They purport to being skilled at adjusting sets to suit any audience – often made up of folks from their fan base – aka ‘Rewinders’ – as well as to suit any venue. According to Millo, it is their combinations of several songs and artists that deliver the ‘wow factor.’

“We are well known for our mashups. They’re unique and surprising,” Millo said, “when you have great songs to jump from one into another.” Millo’s fervor for the “last great rock era – the 70s” is clear as he emphasizes the scope of their song choice diversity. “We never play the same set list twice. If someone has seen us before no matter how recent, our sets are 100 percent different every time.” Then adds, “we’re going to rock to the depth of what we know.”

So, there just may be a Journey medley, surprise songs not usually done live like Golden Earring’s “Twilight Zone” or an unexpected Billy Idol “Rebel Yell” meets Eagles “Hotel California” combo, even twin guitar blasts with rich vocal harmonies a plenty to really rock your world from Sonic Rewind live Saturday at the second annual 2017 River Run duathlon at Riverwalk in Rock Hill.

The sporting event will run from 8 a.m.-midnight. Live music from Sonic Rewind starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs to 12:30 p.m. Find the band along with the food trucks congregated in a cordoned-off area of the parking lot at The Pump House Restaurant, 575 Herrons Ferry Road-Riverwalk, Rock Hill.

Incidentally, the 2nd Annual River Run is sponsored by the Pump House American Restaurant and coordinated by Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism with proceeds benefiting the Nature Navigators Endowment.
