It’s been mostly hush hush. Any details released have been with near military efficiency to tantalize and string fans along. All will be revealed Sunday with Carolina Crown’s 2017 Show Preview, live at Nation Ford High School in Fort Mill.

Based in York County and the Charlotte Metro area, Carolina Crown is a top 5 DCI drum and bugle corps with a sparkling reputation and world class talent. Each year skilled musicians underage 21, come from across the United States and worldwide for workshops and to audition for coveted open spots among Crown’s ranks.

Modern drum and bugle corps are a marching musical ensemble with brass instruments, percussion, synthesizers and color guard – a choreographed musical extravaganza of performance precision and pomp.

Awesome ambassadors of goodwill for the Carolinas, Carolina Crown is consistently the fan favorite at the DCI World Championship Finals in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2013, Carolina Crown won the finals, last year they placed third.

Details about the show we do know: the title is “It Is” and music selections incorporated into the production include “Everything in Its Right Place” by Radiohead; “Little Fugue in G Minor” by Johann Sebastian Bach; “Crown Imperial” by William Walton and more. Overall expect the show is about all things artistic, imaginative, bold and dynamic with raw edgy musical power.

Be there as all is unveiled – including the 2017 Hall of Fame Class – at the 2017 Carolina Crown Show Preview, 7 p.m. Sunday at Nation Ford High School, 1400 A.O. Jones Boulevard, Fort Mill. Gates open at 6 p.m. An encore performance follows with guests from Nation Ford High School. Tickets are $2 per person or $5 per family and all proceeds go to the Nation Ford High School Band “March to Macys” fundraiser. Details: carolinacrown.org.

Jammin’ at the Tracks

The Flatland Tourists cruise into their old stomping grounds Friday live for the Jammin’ at The Tracks concert series in downtown Waxhaw. Officially kicking off the start of summer in Waxhaw, this will be a hometown throw-down so expect “a great time and a blast of a show” as promised.

The Flatland Tourists came together in 2013 with a rootsy sound so authentic they were chosen the Carolinas Music Award’s Americana Band of the Year by the Carolinas Music Awards just two years later.

Since then their time has been spent with recording and releasing their music, guest slots on tours, festivals, at venues and sharing their music across the Southeast. The band features Rachel Garcia, vocals/percussion; Billy Bost, guitar/banjo/vocals; Frank Sutton, drums/percussion/ukelele; Joe Williams, guitars/harmonica/mandolin/ukelele/ vocals; Kevin Winchester, electric and upright bass/ vocals and Tom Eure, fiddle.

Together they mix all the right fixin’s true to their roots and the region, running the gamut of rock, country, folk, gospel and more with clear vocals, tight harmonies with a little juking and some jazzy jam or wistful melancholy, plus plenty of sass and Southern sentiment well-loved round these parts -- from the mountains to the piedmont right on down to the Carolinas’ coastline.

Traditional rootsy sounds rocked up with a guarantee of foot-stomping fun from The Flatland Tourists live Friday for Jammin’ at The Tracks, (7 p.m.), 1150 Broome Street, Waxhaw. Bring a lawn chair, dancing shoes and hang out. For more details, go to waxhaw.com. For more on the music, see flatlandtourists.com.
