Khaos Kings ‘rock the hurricane’ in Catawba Sunday

An obvious question for the band Khaos Kings – live Sunday at The Handle Bar Tavern in Catawba – is do they play the Scorpions’ classic “Rock You Like a Hurricane?” Front man/vocalist Bryan Dover answers with a chuckle saying, “yes, we do! We do play that song.”

It’s an appropriate choice for their weekend repertoire considering all the hubbub surrounding the major weather possibility that might hit the area a day or so later. Oddly, this week’s ‘Sunday Funday’ Khaos Kings show could be the ‘calm before the storm’ in a matter of speaking. But, judging by the band’s moniker, uproar and ruckus is always inherent with these popular longtime rockers.

Be prepared for a full tilt hard-rocking blowout from this Chester/Rock Hill/Great Falls- based bunch featuring Dover, lead vocals; Chad Hare, lead/rhythm guitar/backing vocals; Robert Baker, bass guitar/ backing vocals; with Billy Nicholson, sitting in on drums.

Weather predictions are one thing but all bets are off where the music is concerned. There’ll be no loss of power or punch, just plenty of “in your face, guitar-driven hair band rock from the ‘70s, ‘80s and early ‘90s.”

Quite simply,” he promised, “we plan to rock it out, because that’s the way we do it – with a high energy show,” adding, “hurricane or not it’ll be a rock juggernaut.”

And just how will they do that? “We get people up on their feet and get them going, singing, dancing,” Dover declared. “Seriously, we will be bringing the chaos, for a least 3 to 3 1/2 hours – to blow the day away.”

I wondered if Dover and company were excited to do this ‘Sunday Funday’ show?’ “Absolutely, we’re definitely looking forward to it,” he admitted, then elaborated. “It’s the atmosphere there. People come to have a good time – to laugh, to interact and,” he added, “playing on that outside stage is special. It’s like a small amphitheater, getting the best sound bouncing off the back of the building to the crowd and to us on stage.”

Be prepared to throw off any built-up storm stress and scary ‘stormbringer’ possibilities. Hard rock to the rescue from Khaos Kings, live Sunday, 2 p.m. at The Handle Bar Tavern, 2610 S. Anderson Road in Catawba. Get show info at 803-327-0074. For more on the music check Facebook.com/KhaoskingsSC.
