Venus Invictus offers experimental rock sound at Rock Hill’s Concerts in the Courtroom
Elevate your holiday hit parade of tunes by taking it up a notch with a three band blast from Rosewave, Venus Invictus and Philip K. Dixie live Friday, courtesy of Concerts in the Courtroom at The Getty’s Building, downtown Rock Hill.
If you seek emerging artists or perhaps something that’s not so much ‘jingle jangle’ and ‘holly jolly’ but still lively, colorful, even unusual, this is for you.
Consider the newly formed Venus Invictus, who debuted this fall. A five member area group, the lineup includes Josh Wright, guitar; Amanda Tattermask, vocals; Harlynn Spectra, bass and Jim Saj, drums; and offering a rock sound with experimental flair that’s ‘on the rock-metal continuum.’
I asked vocalist Tattermask for more details. “We are made up of members of now defunct Charlotte bands Tattermask and NIHM,” she said, “and we play experimental hard rock with a metal edge.” Metal interpretation nowadays is a wide open and ever-changing genre, often very much in the eye or ear of the beholder.
Tattermask offered more clarity. “We’re sort of like a weirder Alter Bridge,” she said, referring to the national recording hard rock group that’s guitar-driven with spirited vocals and heroic themes. “We do our best to write high-energy music and perform our music with some entertaining stage theatrics,” Tattermask said. She added that as far as theatricality, “we wear capes and throw special items out to the crowd sometimes.”
Their first single video is titled “Let’s Not Lose Our Heads.” Otherwise, the band’s mystique finds them “set apart in star-crossed virtue” promising, “every day we walk among you.” Share the galaxy with Venus Invictus along with Rosewave, and Philip K. Dixie Friday for Concerts at the Courtroom, inside the Gettys Building, 201 E. Main St., Rock Hill. Check thecourtroomrockhilltumblr.com for show details.
