The summer concert season is off and running. Let’s kick it off with an area rock heavyweight –The Joe Davis Band – live Saturday at the Sylvia Theater in York.

Simply stated The Joe Davis Band delivers hard rock/southern metal with soul. Oh, but it’s much more than that. On the JDB website there’s the pledge: “We are a heavy metal hard rock band from the south. We will never be anything else.”

So, any way you look at it, the musical direction here is not only clear but deliberate. And that’s okay, because sometimes you’ve just got to have your rock delivered with slammin,’ jamming purpose, focused firmly on the righteous side of hard and heavy.

The JDB does exactly that thanks to the clear vision of guitarist/songwriter/band namesake Joe Davis, an authentic powerhouse player whose dramatic melodic metal conjures what can only be called “guitar voodoo” with a dynamic dash of myth and mystery.

The level of commitment found in The JDB is shared wholeheartedly by faithful fans, friends, followers. The band and Davis have won awards, played support for nationals, presented solo showcases, recorded and distributed a live music video and released 7 albums.

The JDB features Davis, guitar/vocals plus Jeff McDonald, drums and Keith Anderson, bass. Together they want to rock the world.

Expect plenty of ‘good rocking’ from The Joe Davis Band Saturday, along with guests Mason Jar, at the Sylvia Theater, 27 North Congress Street, downtownYork. Call 684-5590 or go to sylviatheater.com for concert details. For more on the music, visitthejoedavisband.com.

Elsewhere

“It was twenty years ago…” circa 1995 when WEND106.5 The End stepped into the radio arena in the Charlotte metro area and will celebrate that milestone with the 106.5 Birthday Bash featuring Cake, New Politics, Flagship & Big Data live Saturday at the Uptown Amphitheatre-NC Music Factory, Charlotte.

Touting a playlist of new and emerging music – which then would have been heavy on grunge – WEND began their tenure as rowdy, rude rock central. WEND is also the only Charlotte rock-oriented radio station that has consistently stayed in touch with the local music scene thanks largely to in-studio performances plus the Sunday night specialty show ‘90 Minutes’ hosted faithfully by Divakar Shukla.

Led by metro area radio veteran Jack Daniel, joined by Davikar WEND has presented a host of DJ’s over the years. Among the on air DJs currently find: Chris Rozak, DZL aka Diesel, plus newer personalities: Woody & Wilcox; Chelsea Paxton; and others.

Along with a format and focus on rock, WEND also produced popular live music events annually including the ‘Not -So-Acoustic Christmas’ and their ‘Weenie Roast’ Concert. Now add the special live music event meant to celebrate their 20 Year Anniversary with the 106.5 Birthday Bash featuring Cake, New Politics, Flagship & Big Data live Saturday at the Uptown Amphitheatre, 1000 NC Music Factory Boulevard in Charlotte.
