Elsewhere

Legendary singer, songwriter, guitarist Stephen Stills has hit the road for a headline solo tour during a break in the 2015 Crosby, Stills, and Nash tour. These precious few solo outings include an area stop Tuesday at The Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte.

Stills’ solo performancs promises a cornucopia of sounds including favorites from his career of over six decades that will highlight solo works as well as spotlight his membership in some of the most iconic bands in rock/pop music history that include Manasas, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Still & Nash (CSN), and Crosby Stills Nash & Young (CSNY).

A two-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – first with Buffalo Springfield and then with CSN – Stills also is a member of the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, and a BMI Music Icon (with CSN).

Stills is ranked No. 28 on the list of ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’ and has albums among the ‘500 Greatest of All Time,’ both as compiled by Rolling Stone. His epic skills have helped to define an era (or two) as evidenced by anthems “For What It’s Worth,” “Love The One You’re With,” “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” and other beloved masterpieces.

From his early years as a folk-rock-blues-pop troubadour, Stills’ fame then grew exponentially when he became part of the first-ever rock supergroup, Crosby, Stills and Nash, along with David Crosby, former member of The Byrds, and Graham Nash, former member of The Hollies. The skills/blending in the stunning vocal harmony sound presented by CSN can only be described as remarkable and inspiring. Later, with the addition of Neil Young, their collective musical alchemy found further distinction and unchallenged renown.

In what can only be described as a not-to-miss treat, Stills’ solo tour will feature two sets: solo acoustic and a full electric band set of career-spanning favorites plus several new songs. Joining Stills onstage will be longtime CSN bandmates Kevin McCormick, bass; Todd Caldwell, organ; and new addition Mario Calire, drums.
