Hi Ho, the Charlyhorse Trio gallops live Saturday into McHale’s on Main in Rock Hill astride a rootsy Americana sound that’s as much The Allman Brothers as it is Crosby Stills and Nash.

So, Southern rock jam finds melodic folksy perspective to tell a tale in a rare acoustic performance from the threesome of Chuck Johnson, lead vocal/guitar; Dale Meyer, guitar and Tom Kuhn, bass.

Other influences find their way into the Charlyhorse Trio mix but it’s the way lead vocalist Johnson channels it all together that makes the music extra engaging.

Citing small town Southern roots, colorful travels, and varied experiences as his backdrop, Johnson opens a window into an inspiring world of life, lost love, and more. As a singer/songwriter this creative skill is moving, as well as memorable. Throw in plenty of humor with lots of lyrical imagery and soulful highlights, all guaranteed to build into a high energy performance from this trio of spirited rockers.

Take an adventurous ride with the Charlyhorse Trio, Saturday at McHale’s On Main, 122 E. Main St. For information, call 803-329-8580 or check mchalesirishpub.com. Get more on the music at thecharlyhorse.com.

Rocking ‘tour de force’

Meet up with a band of relative newcomers the David Payne Band live Friday at Ledo Pizza in Rock Hill. Taking their cues from classic rock, Southern rock and even country, this Rock Hill-based bunch formed in 2014 aimed at having singing and dancing fun – onstage for the band and offstage for the audience.

The band features band namesake David Payne, lead vocals; of course, plus Gabe Sasser, rhythm guitar/backing vocals; Trent Hull, lead guitar; Reggie Hallman, bass guitar and Mickey Edmonds, drums.

Together they look fondly to the rock that they grew up with from the 60’s to the 80’s for their motivation. Accordingly, varied personal favorites trickle through the DPB influences ranging from Elvis to U2.

The result of this vast swirl of factors promises what they term a rocking ‘tour de force’ which could easily be interpreted to mean rowdy, fun musical shenanigans from motivated and talented musicians.

Sample the sounds and whole-hearted rush of enthusiasm plus possible high jinks from The David Payne Band Friday at Ledo Pizza, 489 Herlong Ave. Visit ledopizza.com or call 803-980-5336 for show details. Find the band on Facebook for more on the music as well as nicknames and other fun facts.

Midweek rock

Make room midweek for hard-driving rock from Blanco Diablo, opening guest for blues rocker Tom Keifer, live Wednesday at Amos’ Southend in Charlotte. Led by Rock Hill’s Jamie Ray, Blanco Diablo is a dynamic, perfect tight fit to open the concert by former Cinderella lead vocalist/guitarist Keifer.

Ray, guitar/vocals; along with bandmates Patrick Jason, bass/backing vocals; and Brad Snipes, drums/backing vocals; bring what he calls “our own firebreathing original material plus a few smokin’ classics to get the audience pumped” for Keifer’s concert, promising “we are going to have a blast at this show and so will the audience.”

Feel the combined power of Blanco Diablo along with headliner Tom Keifer, live Wednesday at Amos’ Southend, 1423 S. Tryon St. For show info, call 704-377-6874 or go to amossouthend.com. Visit blancodiablomusic.com and tomkeifer.com for music details.
