Break out the ugly sweaters for The Whiskey Prophets

Ugly might be the new elegant where holiday attire is concerned, particularly when joining The Whiskey Prophets for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party Friday at Luke’s Sports Bar and Grill in Rock Hill.

Go big with your festive garb. Festoon your apparel with baubles, beads, bows, ribbons, sequins and more to make a classy, trashy or rock ‘n’ roll sweater statement befitting the rock and blues jam of the Prophets.

It’s the band’s last show for 2015. Mike Faulkenberry, guitar/vocals; Jr. Snipes, drums; Chase Killough, lead, slide guitar/backing vocals; and Carey Walter, bass/backing vocals, urge all to dress up to make it more fun.

Pick an ugly sweater for easy groovin’ because the Prophets can move your soul. With The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes influences to draw from, the result is favorite covers wrapped up in the Prophets own festive style.

May all sweaters be ugly and bright with jams that are out-of-sight with The Whiskey Prophets Friday at the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party at Luke’s Sports Bar & Grill, 465 Herlong Ave., S, Rock Hill. Call 803-327-2701 for show information or go to lukesbarrockhill.com. Check Facebook or www.reverbnation.com/mikeswhiskeymusic for more on the band.

Say goodbye

On one hand, Tremont Music Hall takes its final bow Saturday with a big blowout bash of bands to salute the past 20 years at the venue.

From national to indie with all matter of metal and fringe styles between, the club catered to all ages and all interests. To salute the club and go out in style, 18 bands including Tattermask, Everthrone, The Body Bags, and Messenger Down will perform live one last time on Tremont’s two stages. The venue is planning a special show overall for this final event.

Mark the rich music history and say goodbye Saturday at Tremont Music Hall, 400 W. Tremont Ave., Charlotte. Call 704-343-9494 or go to tremontmusichall.com and Facebook for details.

Celebrate

On a much happier note, celebrate the 42nd anniversary of The Double Door Inn with The Federal Bureau of Rock & Roll live Sunday in Charlotte.

The legendary venue with a national reputation, opened its doors on Dec. 22, 1973 dedicated to blues music. Not only has the club stayed true to its original concept, but has done so in its original location.

In honor of the landmark, it’s appropriate that The Federal Bureau of Rock and Roll will be hand to commemorate because the second live act that performed at the Double Door was none other than Lenny Federal himself.

Rightfully Federal along with his buddies in the band – these musical legends in their own right – will serve helpings of their signature straight-on bluesy originals with classic Americana rock.

Join this auspicious anniversary soiree Sunday at The Double Door Inn, 1218 Charlottetowne Ave., Charlotte. For details, call 704-376-1446 or check doubledoorinn.com.
