Suttleband’s music not so subtle

There’s nothing subtle about The Suttleband live Friday at The End Zone in Rock Hill. Their musical stance is all about bringing the rock, the roll, the funk and the soul by any means possible.

This includes guitars, drums, percussion, horns, guest musicians, supporting vocalists, surprise sit-ins by local legends – whatever it takes to lay down a soulful, rocking groove.

The band name centers on guitarist/lead vocalist Bryman Suttle. Many have followed his music for years, especially during the time of Chronic.

The core of Suttleband is not unlike that era, but now it’s also spread out into a “come join in” plan drawing from a rotating host of musicians referred to as “family” who regularly show up to jam.

For their first Suttleband show in 2016, look forward to a possible who’s who of local luminaries along with the band’s regular lineup of Aaron Thomas, bass; David Sarn, drums and Suttle. Also expect drummer Tito Wilkes, said Suttle: “Tito was in Chronic too. He has played off and on for the past five years with Suttleband. Look for Letron Brantley on sax, also part of Chronic and found on their first album “Superfunk.” Another guest initially touted as a surprise, but we got the lowdown – its lead vocalist Jonathan Garvey.

Faithful area music fans will recognize him as the singer for Hoodwinked now, but might also remember him from days in the band Wired with ace guitarist Mike Waters.

Another highlight that goes over well for Suttleband involves recognition. “We put in our own twists covering the music of the artists we like and respect, to reinvent the songs but still stay true to the music,” Suttle said. It’s something that’s become a band and audience favorite to pay homage to classic bands with “short medleys stringing together familiar parts of hit songs by favorite bands like Parliament, Earth Wind & Fire, and others to lead into longer songs.”

Become part of this harmonic convergence with Suttleband Friday at The End Zone Sports Bar, 2354 Ebenezer Road. Call 803-324-8300 or find them on Facebook for show details. For more on the music, go to suttleband.com.
