Marshall Tucker performs Saturday in Lancaster
Let live music make sweet memories this Valentine’s Day weekend. You can soak up the classic Southern country rock and blues blend of the legendary Marshall Tucker Band, live Saturday at Bundy Auditorium at USC-Lancaster.
Part of the city of Lancaster’s 2015-2016 Performance Series, this is a special concert in many ways.
MTB, originally from Spartanburg, was among the first and foremost of the major Southern rockers in the ’70s. They formed in 1971, were signed to Capricorn Records and became known for classic favorites that include “Heard It in a Love Song,” “Fire on the Mountain,” “Can’t You See,” and “Take the Highway.”
MTB has racked up 22 studio albums, three DVDs, three live albums, plus numerous compilations, earning the band seven gold albums and three platinum albums. During the ’90s, the band also scored hit singles on Billboard’s country chart and gospel chart, as well as being featured on movie soundtracks and TV shows.
The band’s current lineup features Doug Gray, lead vocals; Pat Elwood, bass; Marcus James Henderson, keyboards/flute/vocals; B.B. Borden, drums; Chris Hicks, guitar/vocals; and Rick Willis, guitar/vocals.
Make it a sizzling Valentine’s with some hot Southern rock from the Marshall Tucker Band live Saturday, with guest openers The Oneppo Brothers duo at Bundy Auditorium, 476 Hubbard Drive on the USCL campus. Old school hard rock
How about a classic hard rock sweetheart of a show from Shotgun Saints? They’re playing Saturday at Pineville Tavern in Pineville. They make their own declaration of love into a hard rock throwdown, thanks in part to the husband-and-wife duo of DZ Mauldwin, lead guitar/vocals, and Sandra Mauldwin, lead/backup vocals. The Saints lineup is rounded out by Chris Munn, drums; Randall Rhodes, lead/backup vocals/bass/keyboards, and Katherine Rhodes, lead/backup vocals/keyboards.
Take aim at the powerful firing line of hot rock from Shotgun Saints, live Saturday at Pineville Tavern, 314 N. Polk St., Pineville. Call 704-889-9464 for show info. Find more on the music on Facebook and at shotgunsaintsrock.com.
Southern country rock
Love conquers all and so does determination as shown by the tenacity of country rockers Parmalee, live Saturday at Coyote Joe’s in Charlotte. This Greenville, N.C., based band mixes traditional country with Southern rock and bluegrass.
The band has racked up plenty of superlatives including a multi-week No. 1 hit, “Carolina,” which also became the longest climbing single by a duo or group ever in the history of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart. “Carolina” has been certified gold by the RIAA and was headed for platinum territory.
In late 2015, the members of Parmalee – Matt Thomas, vocals/guitar; Josh McSwain, guitar/vocals; Barry Know, bass/vocals; and Scott Thomas, drums – were upbeat about their career. They’re aiming for additional Top 10 hits, more touring to add more critical praise and fan support already garnered by their debut country album, “Feels Like Carolina.’
Driven by small-town grit and glory, Parmalee has carried on its journey to Nashville and to music fame. Welcome Parmalee back to the area Saturday at Coyote Joe’s, 4621 Wilkinson Blvd., Charlotte. Call 704-399-4946 or go to coyote-joes.com for show details. Get more on the music at parmalee.com.
