Quite simply put, Patti LaBelle is a living entertainment legend. This R&B rock ‘n’ soul diva – live Saturday at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte – is a singer, songwriter, TV actress, author and cooking phenom with an unprecedented career that stretches from the early ’60s.

LaBelle began her stellar success as the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells, later known simply as LaBelle in the ’70s.

Over the course of her near 50-year career, LaBelle has sold over 50 million records worldwide with an array of hit tunes. She has taken home a long list of awards and honors. She was presented the Legend Award by the World Music Awards and inducted into several halls of fame: the Grammy, The Apollo Theater, The Songwriters’, plus she has her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Often identified as the “Godmother of Soul,” as well as the “High Priestess of Good Vibrations,” LaBelle has two Grammy Awards (with multiple nominations), an American Music Award, multiple NAACP Image Awards, a BET Lifetime Achievement Award, and she appeared in the “Women of Soul” performance at the White House.

Not willing to rest on her laurels, LaBelle headed out on a tour that began in Detroit in January and ends in New Jersey in April with one timely stop midway in the metro area.

Here’s a grand chance to witness a shimmering performance by an artist recently praised by a reviewer from the Ohio Dispatch for her skills to “belt out a tune, have fun … connect with the audience … and still look marvelous.”

Expect a hit-filled evening including “Lady Marmalade,” a poignant dedication to Bobbi Kristina Brown, a video screen of past performances, plus plenty of surprises. Making it all look easy, even glamorous, see Patti LaBelle Saturday at Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E. Independence Blvd. For details call 704-372-3600 or visit ovensauditorium.com.
