Hailee Steinfeld Gets Real About Postpartum Body Changes: 'Vulnerable'

Hailee Steinfeld is opening up her "vulnerable" new normal after welcoming her first baby with husband Josh Allen.

"You know how some weeks feel beautifully full, others strangely slow?" Steinfeld, 29, wrote in the Friday, May 15, edition of her "Beau Society" newsletter. "Well, somehow, these past few have managed to be both."

Steinfeld, who announced last month that she recently gave birth to the couple's daughter, has since been navigating postpartum highs and lows.

"You guys always ask me what I'm reading, and currently it's The First 40 Days," she wrote on Friday, revealing Ayo Edebiri sent her a postpartum care basket after they presented together at the 2026 Golden Globes in January. "I sent her a rambling voice note the other day to let her know how often I've been reaching into her postpartum emergency kit - daily!"

According to Steinfeld, "every word" in Heng Ou, Amely Greeven and Marisa Belger's book on motherhood and postpartum recovery has already "resonated" with the actress' own experience.

"There's a paragraph early on that talks about how even forty days after giving birth, you're still in such a vulnerable state," she wrote in her newsletter. "People understand that about your new baby, but they don't understand that about you, the mom."

Steinfeld continued, "I'm still in this early period and need to remember to be super gentle with myself in every way - physically, mentally, nutritionally, spiritually, all of it."

Amid her postpartum experience, Steinfeld has shifted her usual fitness regimen.

"My body has gone through a lot of change recently, so I'm taking it slow while I figure out what my workout routine will look like moving forward," the Sinners actress explained. "But any time the weather is nice enough to get outside, I'll get out for a quick walk. If that's not an option, I'm on the treadmill, or the stairmaster - which I'm really into right now."

Steinfeld has also followed both The First 40 Days and her doula's respective advice about postpartum nutrition.

"In general, [my doula] advised me to stick to warm foods during my postpartum recovery to help digestion and boost nutrient absorption, a philosophy that stems from Ayurveda," Steinfeld said. "Knowing this, my mom made me this amazing albondigas soup the other day. It's one of those rare soups that looks as good as it tastes."

Steinfeld and Allen, 29, have been together since 2023, getting married two years later.
