Community Cafe expanding to Fort Mill

The Community Cafe will open its second location Wednesday, June 1, in Fort Mill.

The cafe provides free soup, sandwiches and more from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays in the family life center of River Hills Community Church at 104 Hamilton’s Ferry Road. The cafe, which started serving lunches in January 2010, set its sights on expanding early on, said chef Don Murfin. The new Fort Mill location at Bethlehem Baptist church will serve dinner from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

“This was all part of the original plan,” Murfin said, “but it just happened a lot faster than anticipated. I didn’t expect the cafe at River Hills Community Church to grow nearly as fast as it has.”

Meals will be made in Lake Wylie since Murfin and his volunteer staff already will be preparing lunch there.

Murfin said the cafe also is looking into opening at other locations in the coming months.
