RICHBURG -- Mr. James Gifford "Jim" Bruce, 69, of Richburg, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, at his home.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mount Prospect United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Rumford officiating. Interment will be private.
Mr. Bruce was born May 4, 1938, in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Frank Gifford and Gladys Minton Bruce. He attended school in Buffalo and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Mount Prospect United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees. Mr. Bruce was a retired vice-president of Strategic Data Solutions in Charlotte, N.C. After retirement, he was the owner of Constable Stuff and a salesman for Jim Bruce Advertising.
He was a South Carolina Constable and served on the Chester County Council for District Two from 2003 to 2006. He served on the Board of Directors of Chester Regional Medical Center and the Board of Keystones in Rock Hill. Very active in civic affairs, Mr. Bruce was a member of the Serenity Club of Rock Hill; the Great Falls Lions Club; and the Chester County Chamber of Commerce. He was formerly a member of Chester County Red Cross.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Schroeder Bruce; sons, Jimmy Bruce and Frank Bruce and Barbara; daughter, Debbie Shaw and James all of Richburg, S.C.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Margaret Schroeder, also of Richburg; and a brother, Donald Bruce of Burleson, Texas. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Bruce.
