Carlisle Clarke Moore Jr.

ROCK HILL -- Mr. Carlisle Clarke Moore Jr., passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 30, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, with his beloved wife Sara and family at his side.

Born in Gastonia, N.C., on Jan. 2, 1924, he was the son of the late Carlisle C. Moore Sr. and Margaret LaFar Moore. Mr. Moore was a graduate of Winthrop Training School, Davidson College and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A World Was II veteran of the United States Army, Carlisle served with the 3rd Infantry Division earning recognition for bravery under fire by the awarding of the Bronze Star with V (for Valor) device, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Croix de Guerre, with Fourragere (braided rope), a high military award for bravery in combat from the country of France.

He was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), now retired, with his practice now known as Moore and Moore, CPA's. A member of Oakland Ave Presbyterian Church, he served as a Sunday school teacher, Deacon and Elder for many years; also a member of Rotary International, the organization recognized him as a Paul Harris Fellow. The South Carolina CPA Association also recognized him as the recipient of the 1997 Annual Service to the Profession award.

Over his life of 84 years, Carlisle Moore was a quietly great man and role model for all to emulate in word and deed. His life has touched many and his legacy will live on through all of those who knew and loved Carlisle.

Survivors include his loving wife of over fifty years, Sara Graham Moore; his son, C. Clarke Moore III, daughter-in-law, Kathy, and granddaughters, Evans and Logan Moore all of Rock Hill; his daughter, Sara Louise Moore Dunn, son-in-law, CDR Al Dunn, and his grandsons Joseph and Graham Dunn, all of Woodbridge, Va.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 - 8 p.m., Aug. 1, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.

A graveside service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in McConnells, at 10 a.m., Aug. 2, 2008. After the interment a celebration of his life will be held at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill SC at 11:30 a.m., with the Rev. Laura Smith-Conrad and Dr. Tom Horton leading the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in the name of Carlisle Clarke Moore Jr. may be made to either Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Ave Rock Hill SC 29730; or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023 Alexandria, VA 22312.
