CHESTER -- Mrs. Eleanor I. Peay, 71, of Chester, passed away Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.
The funeral will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, at Browns Chapel AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. O.L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Born in Cobb County, Ga., July 5, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Theophilus Summerour and Irene Dobbs Summerour. She was a member of Browns Chapel AME Zion Church, where she was a Deaconess, member of the Missionary Society, class leader, trustee and director of the youth for Christian Education Department for the York Chester District.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Summerour.

Survivors are her husband, John Peay Sr.; sons, John (Phanomrat) Peay Jr., Michael (Camille) Peay, Timothy Peay, Anthony (Sara) Peay, David Peay, William (Debbie) Peay, and Mark (Anja) Peay; brothers, Herman Summerour and Earl Summerour; son-in-law, Chip Campbell; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Peay and Rev. Jessie Peay; eighteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two adopted daughters, Elaine Bulter and Brenda Keenan.
Viewing will be from 3 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at King's Funeral Home, 135 Cemetery Street, Chester, S.C.
The family will receive friends at the home.
