Looking for fireworks and fun? Here's what's happening today

Looking for fireworks and July 4 fun? Here's a look at Independence Day festivities today:

Tega Cay's celebration continues Sunday with the annual boat parade from noon to 2 p.m. from Nivens Creek to Windjammer Park. Other events include water fun at Windjammer from noon to 3 p.m., a canoe joust from noon to 1 p.m. and ski show from 2 to 3 p.m., all at Windjammer Park. At Glennon Community Center, events include a golf tournament from noon to 5 p.m., Carnival of Fun, 1 to 5 p.m., Lions Club fish fry, 4:30 to 7 p.m., birthday celebration, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., fireworks, 9 p.m. and a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The Lake Wylie Fourth of July Fantastic Fireworks display will start at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday. For those without boats on the water, the best viewing locations are the Buster Boyd Bridge boat landing, T-Bones deck, Rey Azteca deck and Lake Wylie Pizza and Italian restaurant. Fort Mill will celebrate the Fourth of July with a patriotic service at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church on Monroe White Street. Family members of the South Carolina Army National Guard 1222nd Engineer Co. based out of Fort Mill will honored. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer will be the keynote speaker. The traditional Firing of the Canons will be at 5 p.m. at the Band Stand.

Johnsville's annual Fourth of July neighborhood parade will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at 528 Forest Lane in Rock Hill. The parade is starting an hour later than normal. The community is invited to participate. For details, call Mike or Laura Fuller, 327-9306.

The town of York will again host July 4 festivities and a fireworks display at the old York Comprehensive High School stadium at 1010 Devinney Road. The stadium opens to the public at 7 p.m. Sunday. Men of Distinction will provide the entertainment throughout the evening until the fireworks display around 10 p.m. The event is free and will include inflatable play structures and other activities for young children, a live band and professional fireworks. The York Comprehensive High School Athletic Boosters will operate the concession stand at the stadium with proceeds going to fund York athletics, so outside food and drink are prohibited, but guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs to use on the field, according to town and school district officials. Pets are not permitted.
