#Muzak reports high demand for #TaylorSwift after #Kanye incident
Who would've thought the Taylor Swift/Kanye controversy would end up having a York County connection?
Well, apparently Muzak -- the Fort Mill-based music delivery company -- has seen a surge in calls from customers who want more Taylor Swift tunes since the incident at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
The company reports dozens of requests in the past 24 hours, according to a news release it sent out this afternoon.
"Many of today’s young women look up to Swift, who writes and plays her own music. Her talent, wholesome appearance and resistance to the erratic behavior of other female singers are just some of the qualities that make Swift a role model, according to her fans," the release says. "Muzak is happy to play more Swift music at the urging of her fans."
Muzak will now play Swift's songs at double the normal rate, the release says.
In case you haven't heard (which means you probably don't watch TV, use Facebook or Twitter, interact with other people or understand spoken English), the 19-year-old country music star was interrupted by rap artist Kanye West during her acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards, with West inferring that the award should've gone to Beyonce. Fans, and even those in the business, were shocked.
So Swift wins again, at least with the customers of Muzak. No word on whether West will issue a statement in response (I'm kidding about that).
Speaking of Muzak, if you don't know much about the company, check out their Web site. I'll give you a hint: They're not about "elevator music" versions of popular songs.
